Queens Borough President Melinda Katz’s Iftar
You are cordially invited to attend Queens Borough President Melinda Katz’s Iftar program in observance of Ramadan. This is the seventh year that our office is partnering with a wonderful committee of Queens-based Muslim community leaders, several of whom (Naheed Bahram, Adem Carroll, Shakila Hamidi, Robina Niaz) are members of the Borough President’s Immigration Task Force.
The program will include greetings from the Borough President; reflections from Commissioner Nisha Agarwal of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs; recitations and chants appropriate to Ramadan led by faith leaders as well as by youth; cultural expressions; the presentation of awards to people who have contributed to the Muslim community in unique ways; and a meal. The purpose of the event is to unite our borough’s diverse Muslim community members at a very special time in their calendar, and also to break bread with colleagues committed to promoting interfaith and multicultural understanding in Queens.
